Improving Literacy, Confidence,
and Life for those with Dyslexia

Pretty teacher helping pupil in classroom at the elementary school

Learners with Dyslexia have unique needs when it comes to literacy instruction. They often feel frustration, anxiety, and exhaustion when they are unable to participate well or easily in a literate society. This emotional turmoil is shared by parents who are desperate to help their children and by educators who are working hard to figure out how to most effectively teach these learners.

EBLI instruction results in closing the literacy gap effectively and efficiently, opening doors that were previously thought permanently closed, increasing confidence, and setting dyslexic students firmly on the path to literacy success.

Literacy Triumphs of a Teacher Mom and her Dyslexic Daughter

Wendy and her daughter Hailey candidly share their journey from Hailey’s dyslexia diagnosis in 3rd grade. She was unable to read even after intensive instruction in Special Education and attending a Dyslexia Clinic for several years. To her delight when, after about 18 hours of EBLI instruction, she learned to read in 6th grade. The first book Hailey ever read independently was The Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe.

Structured Linguistic Literacy

Accelerate Reading and Spelling Gains

Decoding, encoding, and phonemic awareness instruction is integrated with Speech-first, rules-free instruction taught explicitly and systematically. Instruction starts from the context of a word, teaching the concepts and reversibility of the English code in a logical, effective, easy to integrate manner. As a result, accurate reading and spelling quickly become a natural byproduct of EBLI instruction.

Improve Fluency and Comprehension

Because accurate, automatic word reading and spelling are taught with integrated instruction and unfold rapidly with EBLI, dyslexic learners move quickly into reading authentic text with support, transitioning rapidly to independent reading. Fluency is trained and the ability to read accurately and fluently, enhanced by supported vocabulary instruction, seque into improved comprehension.

Explicit Instruction Transfers Quickly to Reading Trade Books

With EBLI, instruction is focused on speech first to teach reading and writing; talking is natural for most students . Traditional phonics instruction has a heavy emphasis on letters first. Letters are a man-made invention and instruction requires rules and exceptions. This results in a heavy cognitive-load for students and bogs their progress to reading beyond decodable text. EBLI instruction accelerates progress to accurate, automatic reading of any text.

Feedback from the Dyslexia Community

“I’m just a teacher from Wisconsin who is dyslexic, has dyslexic children, and whose life was changed in 3 days by applying scientific evidence to reading, spelling, and writing instruction. I’ve witnessed and experienced the frustration and overwhelm of learners, teachers, leaders, and parents. EBLI is by far the most effective, efficient solution I’ve seen that addresses a primary root cause of the behavior, mental health, student achievement, AND teacher/admin burnout challenges occurring in schools.”

I didn’t have time to do thing I had to do to prepare to pass the (recertification) boards. I failed the boards and when I did I was really shocked. This is when I stopped and said I need help. With her methods (EBLI), not only did I feel liberated, I felt empowered.

After years of using OG and dabbling with other Speech to Print approaches, shifting to EBLI has been a game changer for me and my students. Nora and her team have distilled the instruction to what is essential, so lesson planning is a breeze, every lesson feels exciting and fun, and students learn so much so quickly.

If the pressure of not being able to read, write, and spell is taken away, those of us with dyslexia excel faster than typical. EBLI provided the tools to take away those literacy struggles. What would have happened in my life if I would have had the tools EBLI provided sooner in my life? Now I read for hours at a time and, as a result, the world has opened up for me in ways I never dreamed possible.

My severely dyslexic child has made more reading gains in a few months of using EBLI than she ever did during her years spent in a rule-heavy OG program. As a mom to a child who has faced many learning challenges, watching her confidence grow in reading (and beyond) has been a tremendous gift.
